Endometriosis occurs when cells that are usually in the uterus grow elsewhere in the body and can cause infertility, but a study presented to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine showed that lycopene, the ingredient that gives tomatoes their red colour, can cut the presence of proteins that cause the problem tissue. Studies show that just 250g of tomato juice of 150g of pasta sauce is enough to significantly increase levels of lycopene in the blood.
A US study found high levels of lycopene can also help prevent sunburn, protect from heart disease and help combat male infertility. |
