Average rating:  | Grappling with Research, 27th Mar 2009 | Reviewer: Julie Goodwin | A report by Arthritis Research Campaign researchers got a lot of publicity recently, highlighting that evidence from randomised controlled trials was available for only a fraction of alternative and complementary therapies in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia.
Acupuncture and osteopathy were not included and many of the remedies mentioned as ineffective were hardly first-choice remedies, e.g. antler velvet, though better known products such as green lipped mussel and glucosamine were also criticised.
Devil's Claw did get a positive mention in the Report as being as effective as conventional medicines. It should be noted that A.Vogel Atrosan Devil's Claw tablets received its THR licence over 12 months ago, underlining its safety and traditional use, while published studies on Devil's Claw support the traditional use of Atrosan. Each box contains a detailed in-pack leaflet. |
